How To Become a Referee

Santa Cruz City Youth Soccer is always looking for motivated individuals who would like to become a referee.  You have to be 13 years old to take the referee course.  Refs will make anywhere from $32 to $81/game depending on the level and position.  Courses are listed on the US Soccer Learning Center Website.  U.S. Soccer Learning Center (ussoccer.com). 

We are sponsoring a local referee course on Sat 8/26/23 from 9-12 at Harvey West Park.  You have to enroll at the US Soccer learning center.  Class #8054.  U.S. Soccer Learning Center (ussoccer.com).  Scotts Valley is also sponsoring a course where the on-field training session is on Sunday Aug 20, 2023 from 9-12 at Highlands Park.

Once you sign up for the course, you will have online assignments you have to complete.  Those normally take 6-8 hours.  The online portion can be done incrementally but must be finished before the on-field training session. 

If the Sat 8/26 time does not work for you, you can see other courses listed on the US Soccer Learning Center.  You can referee for SC City regardless of where you take the on field session.

All referees over 18 years of age also have to pass a background check.
